Arizona Health Trends Every ACLS Provider Should Know About
In order to be prepared to provide the best possible care, it is important for every Arizona healthcare professional to keep up with Arizona health trends. Data has shown a rise in health conditions ranging from obesity to asthma. Here are four Arizona health trends that every healthcare provider should know about.
Arizona Health Trends
Obesity – Obesity rates are on the rise, as seen in both U.S. and Arizona health trends. Data from the Kaiser Family Foundation showed that over 65 percent of adults in Arizona are overweight or obese – Arizona’s rate is slightly higher the national rate for obesity. Obesity can lead to other serious health conditions, including heart disease and diabetes.
Heart disease – Heart disease remains the leading cause of death in adults in Arizona. According to data from the Kaiser Family Foundation, the death rate for heart disease in Arizona is 152 deaths per 100,000 people. Heart disease is commonly caused by preventable behaviors, such as unhealthy diet, lack of exercise and smoking.
Unintentional injuries – According to a report from the Arizona Department of Health Services, there were approximately 2,887 deaths in Arizona due to unintentional injuries in 2009 alone. The top three most prevalent causes of injury resulting in death were:
- Poisoning by drugs
- Motor-vehicle accidents
- Unintentional falls
Asthma attacks – AZ health trends are above the national average for number of individuals treated for asthma. 16 percent of 18 to 24 year olds have asthma, which is nearly 5 percent above the national rate; 12 percent of 25-34 year olds have asthma, which is 4 percent above the national rate.
