What is the AHA doing to help educate consumers?

The American Heart Association believes that knowledge is power, and has produced a number of materials to help educate consumers on early risks, warning signs and prevention methods. The majority of these materials are available via their website, and can be useful tools for healthcare professionals as they work to educate patients on the risks and warning signs of heart disease, stroke, heart attacksheart failure and other diseases of the heart and cardiovascular system.

These tools and resources include:

Quizzes and Risk Assessments – The AHA provides quizzes to educate consumers on the symptoms of a heart attack or stroke, and also provide tools to determine potential risk for heart attack or metabolic syndrome.

Heart 360® – This new application allows consumers to track and understand the multitude of factors that affect heart health.

eNewsletters – eNewletters can keep consumers–and medical staff who work on heart health—to stay abreast of the latest information on heart and vascular health.

Educational Brochures – Brochures are available to print and share with patients to ensure that they have easy access to information that they need.

Interactive Cardiovascular Library – Illustrations, videos, animations and more make learning about heart health easy and approachable.

More detailed information is also available via the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute. The growing emergence of online tools available to both the public and to healthcare professionals makes educating patients early about potential health risks even easier.
