PALS training – coursework in pediatric advanced life support techniques – is a requirement for many medical practitioners dealing with infants or children. In addition to providing invaluable skills to those individuals who can use them to stabilize children in medical emergencies, PALS training may also provide a career boost by enhancing your professional skill set.

To find out more about the impact of taking PALS classes on career opportunities, Health Ed Solutions interviewed a graduate of the PALS online certification program, Teresa Maresh, who discussed her experience.

HES: Which Health Ed Solutions course did you take?

TM: I took the PALS certification online course.

HES: And what is your current position?

TM: I do anesthesia for Laredo Laser and Surgery in Laredo, Texas.

HES: And why did you become certified in PALS?

TM: It's required by my employer at our facility, and it helps me keep up to date with the most current information for pediatric protocols.

HES: And have you found benefits from your PALS training outside your job? Have you had occasion to use the skills that you learned in your PALS classes when you weren’t on the job?

TM: Yes, because I'm a grandmother, so it helps me know what to do in an emergency with my grandkids. I always like to stay ahead of them!

HES: So, the Health Ed Solutions PALS classes seem to have been a good investment for you. Would you recommend the certification to others in career situations similar to yours?

TM: Yes, I definitely would. It's a convenient way to refresh and update skills that we need to use in the office every day. It's especial helpful to be able to take the certification online. In my office, we just don't have a lot of time and we use the Internet all day, so I’m already comfortable with doing things online. I did my coursework at home, which was the most convenient for me – that way I was more relaxed and didn’t have a lot of interruptions.

HES: In general, how would you describe your experience taking the PALS classes online?

TM: It's an awesome program.
